From 5th to 14th July 2009, in order to actively participate in the international affairs and strengthen communication and cooperation with international NGOs, Mr. Pan Yousheng, Vice President of the Beijing NGO led a delegation with four members together with CNIE delegations to go to Geneva, Switzerland participating in UN ECOSCO High-Level Annual Meeting and visited Germany.
UN ECOSCO High-level Meeting (2009) was held from 6th to 9th July. This meeting took the theme as “Implementing the Internationally Agreed Objectives and Commitments in the Field of Public Health”. Heads, ministers and officials of institutions of UN, related regions and member states, related representatives of NGO with consultative status in international organizations, civil society and ECOSCO and so on participated in the meeting.
Together with CNIE, the Beijing NGO working group carefully crafted China civil organization booth in headquarter of UN, Palais des Nations in Geneva. They promoted the achievements gained by civil organizations in the field of public health using words, pictures and multimedia and so on. The panel focused on promoting the constructive fruits of “People’s Beijing, Technological Beijing and Green Beijing, including the achievements made by Red Cross Society of China Beijing Branch, Beijing Family Planning Association and Beijing Health Care Association and other civil organizations. It made the Five-Starred Red Flag sparkling among more than 40 international NGOs which attracted extensive attention.
On 6th July, after the opening ceremony of the meeting, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, Mr. Sha Zukang, Undersecretary General of United Nations, Seth, Director of Department of Development and Coordination in Ministry of Affairs of UN ECOSCO, Abamov, head of NGO Support and Coordination Office personally visited China booth and talking with the delegation, taking pictures together.
In order to better participate in the international affairs for Beijing NGO, especially to better play a role in UN stage, Beijing NGO would like to apply for the consultative status in UN ECOSCO. Taking this opportunity, the working group visited Mr. Sha Zukang, Vice Secretary General of United Nations. He pleasantly wrote the following inscription for Beijing: I hope Beijing NGO will make new contribution to the cause of people-to-people international exchanges in Beijing.
From 10th to 14th July, the working group went to Cologne and Berlin in Germany meeting Mr. Kremers, President of Germany-China Friendship Association of Cologne Branch and friendly personnel in the University of Cologne. It also met Ms. Yu Demei, President of Germany-China Friendship Association of Berlin Branch and principals of the Confucius Institute in Berlin discussing the cooperation of hosting China traditional painting and calligraphy exhibition and China folk culture exhibition and so on.
