On July 24, 2008, Beijing NGO arranged its members, liaisons and staff to visit Beijing South Railway Station which is going to put into operation on August 1. The 69 visitors included President of Beijing NGO Huang Chengxiang, Vice Presidents Tian Xiaoping and Pan Yousheng, Secretary General Zhang Lingling, the Executive Vice President of Red Cross Society of China Beijing Branch Han Lu, Executive Vice President of Beijing Radio Association Wang Yuanjing and Vice President of Beijing Federation of Industrial Economics Zhu Dingheng etc. In this activity, they experienced a new era of Beijing’s transportation which is sped up because of the host of 29th Olympic Games in Beijing and the reform and opening up of China 30 years ago.
In the visit we got to know that Beijing South Railway Station covers an area of 0.32 million square meters. As one of the major auxiliary projects of Beijing Olympic Games, the station is the origin station of Beijing-Tianjin inter-city railway and Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. As a large modernized comprehensive transportation junction integrating multiple transportation modes comprised of railway, city subway, public transportation and taxi etc., its departure and arrival person-time per day during peak season exceeds 1 million.
