From June 3 to 8, our association sent a delegation comprising 4 delegates in all including Vice Secretary General of Beijing Environmental Protection Foundation Gu Jiacheng, Deputy Director of the Lawyeress Working Committee of Beijing Municipal Lawyers Association Zhang Wei, member of Standing Committee of West City District Federation of Industry & Commerce Chen Huihua (President of Beijing Huihua Century Apparel Co., Ltd) and Liu Yuqing, staff of Secretariat of Beijing NGO to attend the 18th Global Summit of Women held in Hanoi, Vietnam. It was the 1st delegation sent by Beijing NGO this year, with the aim to make more friends and to build widespread connections through the platform of international NGO conference and to pave the way for the future work of the association. The visit was a great success.
The Global Summit of Women was founded in 1990 by Ms. Elena Nadiwedad, the eminent American women activist and current President of Organizing Committee of the Summit and advocated by the International Women Enterprise Network of US. The purpose of the summit is to enhance the contact and exchange among the women of business circle around the world and help to improve women’s capability to start and manage business. The Global Summit of Women is a semi-official and semi-nongovernmental global women forum focusing mainly on economics. All the attendees are women leaders in charge of government sectors, managing the enterprise and leading the non-governmental organizations. In its unique role of bringing together the women elites from political circles and business circles, the summit aims to offer advice on improving women’s economic rights and interests from the respects of both government policy and commercial operation. The summit is usually composed of the Roundtable Meeting of Women Ministers, the Global Summit of Entrepreneurs and the Women’s Goods Exposition.
The 18th Global Summit of Women held in Hanoi this year was themed in Women and Asia-Promoting the Global Economics. Nearly 1,000 leaders from political circles, business circles, the academic institutions and non-governmental organizations of 61 countries and areas and almost 72 economic entities attended the summit, with women in majority.
At the closing ceremony, President Elena called on donation for victims in the earthquake stricken areas in China and flood areas in Myanmar. A total sum of $33,000 was raised and would be allocated to the disaster areas respectively. The 19th Global Summit of Women is to be held in Chile, announced at the end of the conference.
