On 19th, March 2009, the Informal Regional Network of the Public Health Forum, the 4th United Nations NGO Pacific-Asia Region Symposium was organized by the China NGO Network for International Exchanges (hereinafter referred to as CNIE), together with Department of NGO in Ministry of Affairs of UN ECOSCO and operated by Chinese Medical Association in Beijing. This symposium took the theme as “the Public Health Forum”, 16 members from NGOs of UN, the Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, India and Indonesia and more than 70 representatives of China NGO.
Li Zhao, Executive Vice President, Pan Yousheng, Vice President of Beijing NGO and group members including Beijing Association for International Medical Exchanges, Beijing Women’s Federation, Beijing Health Care Association, Beijing Disabled Persons’ Recovery Federation, Beijing Family Planning Association, Beijing Association for Science and Technology and Beijing Municipal Lawyers Association with total 15 members attended the meeting. Han Lu, doubled as standing Vice Chairman of Beijing Red Cross Society of China Beijing Branch and Vice President of Beijing NGO, delivered a keynote speech taking the theme as “Beijing Public Health Education and Disasters Prevention” at the conference.
This meeting became a significant platform for group members participating in international exchange activities. They made friends, broadened horizons and knew about the ways and importance of international NGOS, which helped us to develop international exchanges.
In addition to this, on 16th March, in order to further promote the idea of “People’s Beijing, Technological Beijing and Green Beijing” and deepen the mutual understanding and friendship with heads of Pacific-Asian Region NGOS, Huang Chengxiang, head of Beijing NGO met NGO delegations with total 15 members from the Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, India and Indonesia. Meanwhile, under our arrangement, the delegations talked with group members including Beijing Red Cross Society of China Beijing Branch, Beijing Association for International Medical Exchanges, Beijing Women’s Federation, Beijing Health Care Association, Beijing Disabled Persons’ Recovery Federation, Beijing Family Planning Association, Beijing Association for Science and Technology and Beijing Municipal Lawyers Association, and investigated the village sanitary station, sewage treatment station and strew gas station and other equipment in Chang Yang County, Fang Shan District in Beijing. The members of delegations spoke highly of our public health, especially of the achievement gained by the new countryside construction. They hoped to communicate and cooperate with civil organizations in Pacific-Asian Region so as to make contributions to the peace and prosperity of Pacific-Asia Regions as well as the advancement of economy and society of all nations.
