Beijing Association for Promotion of Peking and Qunqu Opera, credited as one of the top ten units for outstanding contribution to revitalize Beijing Opera, was awarded the first Golden Chrysanthemum Award by the Ministry of Culture. Since its establishment in January 1985, the Association has done a great deal of solid and effective work in promoting national arts of China and built up a good social image of a mass organization dedicated to promoting Peking and Qunqu Opera arts. The Association took the lead in proposing the slogan of 'Peking and Qunqu Opera renewal should start with children' and hence made remarkable achievements in popularizing, training and organizing children's Peking and Qunqu Opera competitions and overseas performances. The Association has been active on campus since it took initiative to host events such as 'National Arts into Campus' and organize the Peking Opera Troupe Tour 14 years ago. Since 2003, it continuously held the third to sixth National University Peking Opera Singing Seminar which had a significant impact. The Association has made unremitting efforts for the popularization of Peking and Qunqu Opera arts, such as the well-organized activities for the amateur performers, the participation in hosting the international, national, provincial and municipal amateur competitions, and the establishment of Peking Opera Association among eight provinces and cities. Under the guideline of 'popularization-oriented, education-based activities starting with children and led by college students', the Association will advance in a pioneering spirit in order to make further achievements in making Peking and Qunqu Opera world-renowned art forms.
