GENEVA, Apr. 13 (Xinhua) -- The 52nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council just concluded in Geneva, Switzerland. A number of Chinese civil society organizations attended the session online or offline and delivered speeches to promote China’s view on human rights, specific practices, and achievements and expose gross violations of human rights by Western countries including the United States and make China’s voice heard at the session.
The China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) pointed out that human rights based on development hold high relevance to equal entitlement to human rights by all people, the fulfilment of human rights depends on economic and social conditions, and development lays solid economic and social groundwork for the fulfilment of human rights. The CSHRS introduced China’s practices in promoting COVID-19 vaccines and protecting people’s rights to life and health, as well as its experiences in carrying out international cooperation and helping other developing countries strengthen their public health capacity.
The United Nations Association of China and Guangming Charity Foundation said that ecological progress is critical to the future of humanity, and sustainable development can only be achieved through the coordinated development of the economy, society, and the environment. As such, the international community should act on the vision of a human community with a shared future and work together to build a clean and beautiful world that enjoys common prosperity.
The CSHRS and the China Ethnic Minorities’ Association for External Exchanges gave an overview of China’s policies and measures intended to ensure that all ethnic groups are equally entitled to human rights. As they said, China protects the political rights of ethnic minorities according to law and ensures their full participation in the formulation, enforcement, and supervision of laws and policies protecting their linguistic, cultural, economic, and other rights. The Chinese government takes solid measures to enhance ethnic unity, promote common development, and safeguard national unity, which is a prerequisite and an important foundation for the protection of human rights. The China Association for Preservation and Development of Tibetan Culture shared Xizang’s practices in setting up boarding schools to popularize compulsory education and in protecting the right of children of different ethnic groups to education.
Chunhui Children’s Foundation, Amity Foundation, and New Sunshine Charity Foundation shared their experience in providing medical assistance for orphans and children with disabilities, offering job opportunities to people with mental problems, and helping cancer patients deal with physical, psychological, and economic challenges. They stressed the importance to protect children’s right to health in the digital age.
Youcheng Social Entrepreneur Foundation talked about how it has set up handicraft workshops in remote areas of Guizhou to help local people, especially women and older adults, shake off poverty. Beijing NGO introduced its best practice in promoting women's engagement in environmental protection and giving full play to women's unique role in global eco-environment governance.
China Foundation for Peace and Development reviewed the more than 100 public interest programs it has carried out in over 30 countries since its establishment, calling on nations to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and work together to promote world peace and development. Beijing Crafts Art Association calls on NGOs around the world to cooperate closely to facilitate the return of lost cultural relics and strengthen exchanges between civilizations.
China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE), Peaceland Foundation, China Volunteer Service Federation, and Amity Foundation called on international civil society organizations to pay attention to the human rights of people in developing countries and disaster-stricken countries and take concrete action to protect the rights of vulnerable groups to subsistence and development. China Foundation for Rural Development introduced its efforts such as the free meals program and the care package program in developing countries such as Ethiopia, Laos, and Sudan to help achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals such as Zero Hunger, Quality Education, and Clean Water and Sanitation.
China Foundation for Human Rights Development, the Chinese Association for International Understanding, Shaanxi Patriotic Volunteer Association, the United Nations Association of China, and Chongqing Yige Social Development Promotion Center pointed out that while grappling with racism, gun violence, and other stubborn headaches of their own, Western countries represented by the United States fabricate lies on Xinjiang and Xizang for political motives, interfere in other countries' internal affairs, abuse sanctions, and wage wars wantonly under the guise of upholding democracy, freedom, and human rights, posing threats to the human rights of people around the world. They also urged the United States to act responsibly to stop human rights violations, champion the UN Charter, and uphold international fairness and justice.
