On November 20, a delegation of 21 persons from the Seminar for Libyan Diplomats visited the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (BPAFFC) and the Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges (Beijing NGO). They were the seventh delegation participating in the seminar which was for diplomats from other developing countries received by the BPAFFC and Beijing NGO this year.
Vice President Jiao Yutong welcomed the guests, expressed sincere condolences to the Libyan people who were hit by hurricanes, and then introduced the BPAFFC and the Beijing NGO to the visitors. He said that China and Libya had long friendship, and since the establishment of diplomatic relations 45 years ago, the two countries had established obvious advantages in complementary resources and industries. He hoped that in the new era and new environment, the non-governmental organizations of the two countries would establish contacts with government support, strengthen exchanges in agriculture, energy, culture, youth and other fields, and bring the two peoples closer together.
Adel, Counsellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Accord, as the head of the delegation, shared his feelings about the study trips to Xi'an, Chengdu and Beijing. “I would like to thank all sectors of Chinese society for their unremitting efforts in promoting friendly exchanges between the two countries,” he said, “China’s achievements in reform and opening up have attracted worldwide attention. I am glad to have the opportunity to come here to see it with my own eyes. I hope that in the future, the two countries can strengthen cooperation in the fields of cultural exchanges and mutual learning, agriculture, and eco-environmental protection, and achieve fruitful results.”
Second Secretary Hamzah said that it was an honor to experience the profound historical and cultural heritage of Beijing and Xi'an, and to witness the impressive achievements of eco-environmental protection and green development in Chengdu. “We have always stood with China on international issues,” he said, “and hope that the two sides can continue to deepen cooperation and truly benefit the two peoples.” “
Second Secretary Khalifa introduced the important strategic role of Libya as the “northern gate” of the African continent, and mentioned that the Belt and Road Initiative is a major measure to connect Asia and the African continent and improve people’s livelihood.
Second Secretary Asmaeil said that he gained a deeper understanding of China’s development status from the trips, and hoped to establish contacts with relevant institutions and organizations.
Third Secretary Gremida mentioned that China had actively spoken out on the international stage and carried out international cooperation, showing the image of a responsible major country, and he hoped to establish pragmatic and in-depth cooperative relations with Chinese organizations in the future.
Vice President Jiao Yutong further introduced to the trainees the relevant work of Beijing NGO in initiating the establishment of the International NGOs Network for Poverty Reduction Cooperation and agricultural cooperation with African organizations, and expressed the hope that in the future, under the framework of the Silk Road Community Building Initiative -- Silk Road People-to-People Connectivity, the non-governmental friendship organizations of the two countries will jointly develop more projects to deliver more tangible benefits for the wellbeing of the people. “We are striding with confidence on the path of modernization chosen by the people,” he said, “and I believe that Libya can also follow a development path suited to its national conditions with the independent efforts of the people, further resolve domestic security risks, usher in economic recovery at an early date, and play a greater role in the international arena.”
