The 7th "Peace Garden Peace Festival" was held at Peace Garden Museum Community in Beijing on September 21 in celebration of International Day of Peace and in memory of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The festival was jointly sponsored by China World Peace Foundation, Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, UNESCO, Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and Beijing Silver Industry Association, with support from Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges, Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China Society for People's Friendship Studies, Chinese Museums Association, Beijing Museum Society, Beijing Chaoyang District Culture and Tourism Bureau, and Beijing Society for Photography Enthusiasts. Dignitaries, diplomatic envoys in China, government officials, heads of business associations, people from all walks of life and youth representatives from over 100 countries participated in the event. The event was livestreamed on the official website of UNESCO. According to incomplete statistics, over 30,000 people watched the event online. Gao Shuangjin, Vice Chairman of Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges and a first-level inspector of Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, was invited to the event.
Essam Sharaf, the former Prime Minister of Egypt; Sujata Koirala, Nepal's former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mushahid, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee of Pakistan; Shabahang, UNESCO's Belt and Road project leader, etc. sent video congratulatory messages to UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay for the 2020 International Day of Peace.
Robert Parua, the representative of the UNESCO in Beijing, said, "The world faces a host of grave challenges. Therefore, it is very important to reiterate our commitment to building a harmonious and prosperous world on the "International Day of Peace".
At the event, the organizers awarded the "Peace Ambassador" medals to the foreign ambassadors to China who contributed to the undertaking of peace, and unveiled the plaque for 4 peace projects, namely China Austria International Volunteer Base, Beijing International Health and Medical Treatment and Eldercare Demonstration Base, Women's Happiness Forum, and World Culture and Art Project. At this year's Peace Garden Peace Festival, the winning works at the second "Silk Road in the Eyes of Youth" International Photography Competition were announced. It was also announced that the third "Silk Road in the Eyes of Youth" International Photography Competition was about to kick off.
