At the International Conference Centre (ICC) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of South Africa, the working group, together with the delegation headed by Li Xuefeng, vice president of Beijing College of Further Education on Science and Technology, visited the South Africa “Innovation Bridge” science and technology exhibition and exchanged views with the exhibitors. The two sides expressed their intention to foster people-to-people cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, and the willingness to forge closer contacts and provide greater support for sustainable development. After visiting the exhibition, the working group participated in nearly 10 parallel meetings such as the opening and closing ceremonies of the Science and Technology Forum and the “Marine Life Protection” meeting. At the parallel meeting of “Chinese NGOs assist technological innovation”, the working group’s members delivered speeches on “Beijing Science and Technology Innovation Platform Construction and Technological Cooperation of Social Organizations along the Silk Road”, “She Power in Science and Technology”, “Beijing Science and Technology Innovation and Staff Skills Advancement”, and “Staff Volunteer Service and Staff Psychological Development Promotion”. The speeches were well received by the participants. Mr. Michael, a member of the Department of Science and Technology of South Africa who is responsible for organization work, held in-depth communication with members of the working group.
When the working group visited the Chinese ambassador to South Africa, Xu Qiang reported on the planning of the 2020 ZGC Forum “Smart plus Transportation” and “Technological Innovation and People-to-people Cooperation” parallel forums. He hoped that the embassy and counselors give support, and invite the South African transportation leaders and influential social organizations to the forums. Counselor Ma Xiaoxiao affirmed the work of the working group, and said that the embassy will play a greater role in supporting Beijing NGOs to conduct communication and cooperation with South Africa.
Moreover, the working group also held discussions with Mr. Si Hai, the chairman of the South African Chinese Chamber of Commerce Shanghai and assistant to the mayor of Johannesburg, on leveraging the support of the Chinese people in South Africa for extensive and practical people-to-people communication and cooperation.
